This film was the most expensive Japanese movie ever made at the time. Only the initial pressings are a 2-disc set including a bonus disc. Directed by Kinji Fukasaku ("Battle Royale") it's a post-apocalyptic sci-fi adventure tale set in the future where a military-engineered virus has wiped out most of the human population, with a handful of survivors in Antarctica who desperately try to find a way for resurrect the human race. The first-rate cast includes Chuck Connors, Glenn Ford, Olivia Hussey, George Kennedy, Edward James Olmos, Henry Silva, Bo Svenson, and Robert Vaughn. Disc 1 contains the main un-cut feature with an optional audio commentary from director Kinji Fukasaku, with his crew members Daisaku Kimura, Yutaka Okada, and Yoshinaga Yokoo), trailer(s) and TV commercial(s), cast & staff bios. Disc 2 (bonus disc) contains the International 100-minute version of the movie "Virus," original behind-the-scenes featurette (15 mins.), interview with director Kinji Fukasaku & author Sakyo Komatsu, & more. Housed in a box. 2 booklets included.
