A fictional documentary of the slow daily life in an African village as director Abderrahmane Sissako returns to Mali to visit his father. Cut off from the technology of the 20th century, the people get around by bicycle, futilely attempt phone calls using the only village phone and keep up with the outside world by transistor radio. The director speaks of his need to film his birthplace and reflects on European/African relations. One of the 2000 Seen By... series of the films about the Millenium.
