Ron (Edward Furlong), a young suburban kid, is arrested for drug dealing and given a severe jail sentence. As he tries to maintain a low profile, he soon attracts the unwanted attention of several sex-starved convicts. Fearing being raped, he makes an appeal to Earl (Willem Dafoe), the prisoner who runs the place. Though Rons request opposes the prison cultures rules, Earl becomes Rons mentor, and soon Ron is a part of Earls inner circle. Slowly Ron learns the extent of Earls power and grows increasingly indebted to Earl, wondering how he is expected to repay him.
