A funny 5-part film directed by Jim Jarmusch who also supervised the production of the new master for DVD. A colorful ensemble of actors makes up each segment but the film's strength lies in the original and exquisitely daft sensibility of director Jarmusch, a pioneering independent filmmaker. Although I wasn't quite satisfied with the first segment starring Winona Ryder and Gena Rowlands, which seemed to me a bit too predictable for a Jarmusch film, I fully enjoyed the rest of the film, particularly the New York segment with Armin Mueller-Stahl and Giancarlo Esposito, the sequence in which they learn of each other's names is a hoot!
