Frozen is unique-even among Chinese films- for providing a rare look at the avant-garde art world of modern Beijin. A young performance artist decides to make his own suicid his last work of art. On the longest day of the year, he malts a hge block of ice with his own body heat and dies of hypothermia. He calls this act of defiance an ice burial. Frozen is based on a true story according to the filmmaker, who must hide behind the pseudonym Wu Ming, or No Name. Indipendently produced films are strictly illigal in China. This controversial movie provides a glimpse into the underground counterculture that exists in China
