Der Golem
Directed, produced and starring Paul Wegener, The Golem is a masterpiece of early cinema. The story centres on a Jewish community threatened with removal from the city under proclamation from the Emperor, which the head Rabbi, Rabbi Loew, predicted in the stars. Constructing a clay man to stop this oppression, and calling upon ancient powers in a magical amulet the creature is brought to life to protect its people.
Nosferatu
A long time ago in middle Europe, a decrepit, forbidding casle stood. Casting an ominous shadow over the townspeople who dare not look upon it, the unholy dwelling is home to one Count Orlok (Max Schreck), an undead night creature with a taste for human blood. Into this picture steps Hutter, an unawary traveler who visits the Count. He carries with him the deed for a property Orlok wishes to buy in Hutters home town of Wisborg.That night, in preparation for the long sea voyage ahead, the vampire hastily loads his coffin aboard ship and waits.....Once at sea, Orlok bares his fangs and, upon arrival in Wisborg, leaves behind a floating morgue. Now, preparing to feast on the citizens, the cadaverous Count, powls the darkness as the eerie NOSFERATU.
The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari
Werner Krauss stars as a deranged hypnotist who spreads death through the countryside from a ramshackle traveling carnival. Before the naive eyes of the townspeople, he unveils the contents of his coffin-like cabinet: Cesare, a spidery sleepwalker who obeys his every command. But at night, once the crowds have dispersed, Calgari lifts the lid on darker intentions, unleashing the dreadful Cesare to act upon his master's murderous whims and carnal desires.
