This archival disc release, transferred from the only existing 35mm and finest 16mm materials, presents Sir Arthur Conan Doyles classic adventure tale with a clarity and accuracy never before experienced. Heightened by a newly composed, digitally recorded score, THE LOST WORLD resumes its position as the first great classic of monster animation. Willis OBrien, creator of the fabulous King Kong, brought Conan Doyles creatures of the past to life and established the patterns and methods that would define animation fantasy films for years to come. Wallace Beery is Professor Challenger, the man of vision who persuaded his skeptical colleagues to return with him to a remote South American plateau where he das discovered living dinosaurs. Resisting danger and death, Challengers party returned to London in triumph with a captive Brontosaurus. The beast escapes, turning the city into shambles and standing the 20th century of its head. One of the great silent films, THE LOST WORLD is a rousing adventure and a landmark in animation. Little known fascinating insights about THE LOST WORLD are revealed in an in-depth essay by Scott MacQueen. A special still frame supplement presents rare production stills and recreates the legendary missing scenes of the original 10-reel version. Also included are the original theatrical trailer and a unique promotional film, plus excerpts from Willis OBriens earliest films.
