One of the most infamous assassinations of the 20 Century was the 1940 murder of Leon Trostky, in exile in Mexico City, by the long and implacable arm of Stalin's secret police. An event that was later seen as one of the first government sponsored exercises or raw, bloody terrorism, this was the event that sealed the fate of Soviet Russa and guaranteed that it would be a Stalinist repressive dictatorship and not the Communism that Lenin dreamed would govern the USSR.
