Covertext Santa Sangre
It's pretty much impossible to explain an Alexandro Jodorowsky film to anyone, but this movie is a little more coherent than usual, and does have a plot that you can follow. Here's the plot: A husband and wife own a circus. The husband starts messing around with a tattooed woman who also works for the circus. In a jealous rage, the wife throws acid in the husband's crotch. This angers him, so he cuts her arms off and then slits his own throat and bleeds to death. This pretty much puts an end to the circus. The couple's son witnesses these horrible events and must be put into an insane asylum due to the trauma. As an adult, he escapes from the asylum and reunites with his armless mother. She takes over the mind of her son, and uses his arms as hers. In other words, he spends most of his time standing behind her and sticks his hands in front of his mother as if his arms actually were his mother's. And these two (the son is actually Alexandro's son) do a brilliant pantomime act. In one scene, she feels like playing the piano. The mother sits at the piano and "plays" while the son actually works the keys. This is amazing to watch. Unfortunately, the mother also has revenge on her mind, and now that she has arms again, she has some unfinished business to take care of, like killing that tattooed lady who caused all of this unhappiness. So, the evil mother leads the son on a bloody rampage of revenge, until the son somehow finds the mental strength to break away from his mother's control. So, that's your basic plot, but the movie is filled with amazing visuals, an incredible use of music, many incredibly bizarre scenes, and other subplots. I'd say it was one-of-a-kind except that Jodorowsky has made other movies. Jodorowsky's unique vision makes for an amazing viewing experience.

Fando Y Lis
Using only a one page script and the memory of his stage production, director Alejandro Jodorowsky blende surreal beauty and savage imagery to fashion this bizarre tale of corrupted innocence, sadomasochistic love, and unattainable paradise. Fando & Lis premiered at the 1968 Acapulco Film Festival, inciting a riot that forced the director to flee for his life. In the ensuing scandal, the film was banned. Jodrowsky was branded a heretic, forced to stand trial and nearly deported. Considered lost for over 30 years, Fantoma is proud to present the directors cut of Fando & Lis, the visionary first film from the crator of such cult classics as El Topo, Holy Mountain and Santa Sangre

El Topo
The gunfighter El Topo ("The Mole") and his young son ride through a desert to a village, whose inhabitants have been massacred. Bandits are nearby, torturing and killing the survivors. El Topo rescues a woman (Mara), who leads him on a mission to find and defeat the four master gunmen of the desert. Leaving his son with a group of monks, El Topo and Mara complete the mission, accompanied by a mysterious woman in black. The women leave El Topo wounded in the desert, where he is found by a clan of deformed people who take him to the remote cavern where they live. Awakening years later, he goes with a dwarf woman to a nearby town, promising to dig a tunnel through which the cave-dwellers can escape. They find the town run by a vicious sheriff and home to a bizarre religious cult. El Topo's son, now a man, is a monk in the town. The completion of the tunnel leads El Topo, the townspeople, and the cave-dwellers to a bloody and tragic end.

The Holy Mountain
A Christlike figure wanders through bizarre, grotesque scenarios filled with religious and sacrilegious imagery. He meets a mystical guide who introduces him to six wealthy and powerful individuals, each representing a planet in the solar system. These six, along with the protagonist, the guide and the guide's assistant, divest themselves of their worldly goods and form a group of nine who will seek out the Holy Mountain, in order to displace the gods who live there and become immortal.
