French super model and acclaimed actress Laetitia Casta stars in this epic celebration of free love and youthful rebellion. The young student Catherine finds herself caught up in the excitement of May '68 riots, where her idealistic classmates fight on the streets for equality and change. Alongside fellow students Herve and Yves, played by celebrated actor Yannick Renier, they move to the countryside in the hope of establishing a communal utopia. However, the years of free love are short-lived, as their ambitions and desires leads to choices that will tear them apart.
Decades later, Catherine and Yves' children are maturing into rebellious adults, just like their parents before them. Yet they exist in an entirely different world, where the fear of socialism is fading and the devastating effects of AIDS threaten to wipe out an entire generation. As the cracks in their family relations begin to surface, Catherine struggles to keep everyone together. Relationships are severed and reconciled against the backdrop of a series of political and historical events that changed the world for ever.
