In the beer bars of Bombay, a new dance has evolved, where girls in revealing costumes do their 'jatkas, matkas, and kamariya lachkes' to loud music and psychedelic lights for the lustful male audiences. One of these dancers is Mumtaz, whose life seems to have been sucked into the Chandhi Bar. With every positive step that happens in her life - marriage, children, and the possibility of something better - comes death, hopelessness, extortion, and poverty. When Mumtaz sees that her children may fall into the same lifepath as her, she becomes desperate to find a way, any way, to give her children a better life.
