In the deep wilderness of Brazil, Father Gabriel brings Christianity to the masses when he builds a Mission. He befriends a slaver named Mendoza, who is on the brink of suicide. Gabriel brings Mendoza into his Mission, and together they help to bring civilization into the savage heart. When the church sells the land to Portugal, Gabriel and Mendoza must fight against the incoming armies, who are planning to once again bring slavery into the land. As Mendoza again raises his sword and unites the natives to resist, Gabriel attempts to use his power as a priest to keep peace in the land.
