"Roots of Evil" is a collection of four horror movies: "House on the Edge of the Park," "Messiah of Evil," "Deep Red, The Hatchet Murders," and "Christmas Evil." "House on the Edge of the Park" (1980, 91min.)
Alex, a psychopathic mechanic, rapes a woman in the park. Later, a couple pulls into his shop needing car repair. They invite Alex and his mentally challenged buddy to join them at a decadent suburban party. Once there, Alex amuses himself by tormenting and raping the guests, never realizing that the guests may have an agenda of their own!
"Messiah of Evil" (1974, 90min.)
A woman's search for her father leads to far more than she expected in this chilling tale of undead horror. She arrives at his deserted beach house only to find that his paintings, notes and tape recordings suggest he has lost his sanity. Before long, the dark secret comes to light, as packs of zombies emerge from the night and stalk their prey!
"Deep Red, The Hatchet Murders" (1975,96min.)
When a psychic mind reader picks up on the thoughts of a murderer, little does he know that he's soon to become a victim himself! An English pianist gets involved in solving the murders, but finds many of his avenues of inquiry cut off by new murders, and he begins to wonder how the murderer can track his movements
so closely.
"Christmas Evil" (1980, 100min.)
Widely recognized as the best of the Christmas horror efforts,"Christmas Evil" is the story of a boy who loves Christmas. He is scarred as a boy when he learns that Santa is not real. Throughout the rest of his life the boy, turned toy maker, tries to make Christmas spirit a reality. He becomes obsessed with the behavior of children and the quality of the toys he makes. When he is met with hypocrisy and cynicism, the resulting snap causes him to go on a Yuletide killing spree to complete this dark comedic horror!
