Made in 1936 and based on the true life incarceration of Dr Samuel Mudd, the doctor who treated John Wilkes Booth for a broken leg after he had assassinated Abraham Lincoln. Mudd was arrested for treason and narrowly escaped execution. Instead he was sentenced to life imprisonment in Fort Jefferson in Dry Tortugas (an infamous prison in the Gulf of Mexico surrounded by shark infested waters.) John Carradine plays a sadistic prison guard.
