A psychedelic whirlwind of black comedy and hallucinatory images, Welcome to the NHK centers around 22 year old Satou Tatsuhiro, who is a NEET: No in Employment, Education, or Training. Having long since dropped out of college, Satou has become a hikikomori, a socially paralyzed recluse, rarely leaving his apartment and surviving on a steady diet of ramen noodles and porn. As his social anxiety continues to climb, Satou begins to discover that he's at the center of a deadly conspiracy being launched by the TV conglomerate NHK, to turn all healthy, thriving people into shut-ins like Satou by satiating them with a continual flow of pleasing but meaningless images. Just as he thinks he's beginning to truly understand the horrors that surround him, Satou meets a beautiful girl named Misaki, who thinks she can cure him of his hikikomori ways. But can he trust her? Is she just an agent of the NHK's secret plan, or is the plan just a figment of his delusions? Either way, Satou's days of keeping himself closed off from the world may be numbered.
