Around 1614,as the highest ruler of Japan and the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate,Tokugawa Ieyasu , perceiving the threat posed by the mighty ninjas in Iga and Kouga and attempting to consolidate his reign, deliberately stirred up the feud between the 2 villages by inviting them to choose 5 mightiest ninjas to have a fight to the death.
Designated as the leaders of the 2 clans respectively,Kouga Gennosuke (Joe Odagiri) and Oboro (Yukie Nakama), loving each other, were unwillingly embroiled in this political plot. Hence, they had to make a difficult decision between their love and clans.
