This film is comprised of two separate stories set against the terrain of college and high school, past and present. Following the paths of
its young hopeful/troubled characters, it explores issues of sex, race, celebrity and exploitation. "Fiction" - Set on a college campus circa 1985, the first part of Storytelling, entitled "Fiction," traces the complicated relationships between three students (Selma Blair, Leo Fitzpatrick and Aleksa Palladino) and their creative
writing professor, Mr. Scott (Robert Wisdom). "Non-Fiction" - In the second part of "Storytelling," Toby (Paul Giamatti) an unfulfilled New Yorker, persuades a high school senior (Mark Webber) and his family (John Goodman, Julie Hagerty, Noah Fleiss, Jonathan Osser) to become the subjects of a documentary.
