New York attorney Sarah Barcant returns to her native South Africa to represent Paul Mpondo, a member of parliament, at the amnesty proceedings requested by a former police officer. During apartheid, Dirk Hendricks had been a torturer, capable of brutally beating a man to death. Once the regime fell, there were orders of no retaliation against members of the security forces. And so, the Truth and Reconciliation unit of justice travels to Mpondo's township for amnesty hearings. No matter the crime, as long as Hendricks tells the truth, amnesty will be granted. Mpondo, an activist during the apartheid regime, holds the freedom of Hendricks in his hands.
