Described in its opening credit as "An account of one of the most mishandled and brutal battles ever fought in Britain", Culloden was hailed as a breakthrough after its first broadcast by the BBC in December 1964. Peter Watkins' reconstruction of the famous battle of 1746 that "tore apart forever the clan system of the Scottish Highlands", shot as a current news report by a television crew, stunned viewers with the power of its imagery and the immediacy of its storytelling.
This special edition DVD also includes Peter Watkins' amateur film, The Forgotten Faces, which was to be so influential on Culloden, together with very rare colour footage shot on location during the making of Culloden.
