Detective Pally Lamarr (Sutherland) is on the fast track to failure. After bungling a big stakeout, he's forced into an early retirement. His health is shot, his wife has left, and he's about to plummet into emotional ruin. His brother Ray (LaPaglia) convinces him to buy a racehorse and hooks him up with a crooked jockey. Pally reluctantly gives a piece of the action to the jockey, who hides the fact that he's deeply in debt to the Mob! With the Mob on his back and the stakes sky-high, Pally, the once law-abiding cop is forced to take the reins and turn down a dark path...that leads to murder!
