A young woman has spent many years in institutions, unable to live with her
mother. When she is finally released she gets a job on condition that she
remains at her mother's home. In deep despair she leaves to go to a dance in an attempt to lighten her mood. Meeting a sailor gives her the chance to get out and about so that she meets others who, she learns, have similar problems.
